The IMMA Modern Irish Masters series seeks to revisit Ireland’s recent history to identify artists who have been critically neglected, but whose work warrants a place in the canon of Irish Modernism. This series brings significant figures into new focus through major annual exhibitions, each accompanied by an extensive schools and talks & lectures programmes.

Building on the success of recent exhibitions including Analysing Cubism, Patrick Scott and Cecil King, IMMA’s  Modern Irish Masters exhibitions create important points of reflection on Irish art and provide audiences the opportunity to experience firsthand some of Ireland’s greatest masterworks, many of which are held in private collections and rarely seen.

Through this website, we aim to create a digital resource for Modern Irish Masters’ work, providing access to the rich imagery and information uncovered by IMMA curator Seán Kissane. In the menus above, you will find images of artists’ work, of the exhibitions and access to essays and documentation about the artists. This is a live resource and we will be adding to it as the exhibitions continue.
